Intraluminal vs Subintimal Drug-Coated Balloon Angioplasty for the Treatment of Femoropopliteal Chronic Total Occlusions
A subanalysis of POPCORN, a multicentre registry in Japan, found that in the treatment of symptomatic CTO lesions of the femoropopliteal artery with drug-coated balloons (DCB), patients in whom the guidewire crossed the intravascular space (intraluminal) as assessed by IVUS had lower 1-year rate of freedom from restenosis compared to patients in which the guidewire crossed the subintimal space, according to a study reported by Dr. Taku Toyoshima, Osaka Police Hospital, Japan and colleagues in the March 11 issue of the JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions.
