Early Aspirin Discontinuation Following PCI in Low-Risk Acute MI Patients: The TARGET FIRST Trial
The TARGET FIRST trial demonstrated that among low-risk acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients who remained free of ischemic or bleeding events during 1 month of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) following drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation, switching to P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy was non-inferior to continuing DAPT for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular outcomes and reduced the risk of clinically relevant bleeding by 54%, according to a study presented by Dr. Giuseppe Tarantini, University of Padova, Italy, in the Hot Line session at ESC Congress 2025.
