Assessing the condition of percutaneous coronary intervention services in Africa: challenges and prospects for advancement – a review
Africa, in general, is still faced with numerous challenges in the area of PCI provision for the large number of cases that require PCI procedures. These challenges include, but are not limited to inadequate infrastructure, resources, and healthcare professionals. However, these challenges show the need and potentials for improvement through collaborations by stakeholders (governments, healthcare professionals and international organizations). Improvements in the area of PCI in Africa will ultimately improve the general healthcare situation on the continent. Dr. Nicholas Aderinto of the Department of Medicine and Surgery, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Oyo-State, Nigeria and Dr. Deji Olatunji of the Department of Medicine and Surgery, University of Ilorin, Nigeria, reported as a review in the online edition of the Annals of Medicine and Surgery.
