Clinical Consequences of Residual Leakage After Left Atrial Appendage Closure: The NCDR LAAO Registry
The NCDR LAAO registry found that patients with small leaks after left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) had a slightly higher risk of thromboembolic and bleeding events compared with patients without leaks, but patients with large leaks had a higher rate of persistent anticoagulation, which was not associated with an increase in adverse events. Dr. Mohamad Alkhouli of the Mayo Clinic, USA, and colleagues reported in the June issue of JACC: Clinical Electrophysiology.
