IVL vs Cutting Balloon According to Coronary Calcification Type: The ShortCUT IVUS Substudy
The ShortCUT IVUS substudy demonstrated that in coronary lesions with a calcium arc <360° or a calcium score of 0-1, there was no significant difference in the minimum stent area (MSA) at the site of maximum calcium between cutting balloon angioplasty and intravascular lithotripsy (IVL), whereas in lesions with a 360° calcium arc, calcified nodules, or a calcium score of 2-4, IVL achieved a larger MSA when rotational atherectomy was not used, according to a study presented by Dr. Suzanne J. Baron, Massachusetts General Hospital, in the Hotline/Late-Breaking Trials session at EuroPCR 2026.
